The following information was pulled directly from As I noted at the start of the review, the ES8000 is at the top the pack in this year’s lineup. If it wasn’t for the 75″ Series 9 model aimed at competing with Sharp’s 80″ model, the ES8000 would be the flagship for 2012. Do note that the UN75ES9000 will ring in at 10K. However, let’s not dwell over those details and have a look at what the UN55ES8000 has to offer as that’s what today’s review will focus on.

If you are wondering what Macro-Dimming is, let me share with you a blurb from Samsung’s USA website:
Micro Dimming Ultimate analyzes each frame of video in hundreds of areas to optimize the LED backlight and video signal for each frame in real time. By increasing brightness in the areas of the frame that are too dark to see, an overall 20% increase in brightness is achieved and finally you can make out that zombie lurking in the dark!

Micro Dimming Standard analyzes areas of the screen (280 in total) and dynamically adjusts the brightness ratio. Micro Dimming Pro adjusts brightness, color and sharpness in the 280 zones. In Micro Dimming Ultimate it does the same as Pro but instead of 280 areas it analyzes 576 zones. The UN55ES8000 is equipped with Micro Dimming Ultimate.

Some of the noteworthy features include the built-in camera for the Smart Content, the Smart Evolution kit coming out in 2013 that is expected to improve picture quality, boost speed and provide more features and content.

Let’s move on with the review and focus on some of the TV features and the menu system.
