Samsung UN55ES7100 55 inch LED HDTVNov 20th, 2012 | By Simon
The following information was pulled directly from As I noted at the start of the review, the ES7100 is in the middle of the pack in this year’s line up. It has some of the features of the higher end models but not all.
If you are wondering what Macro-Dimming is, let me share with you a blurb from Samsung’s USA website:
Micro Dimming Ultimate analyzes each frame of video in hundreds of areas to optimize the LED backlight and video signal for each frame in real time. By increasing brightness in the areas of the frame that are too dark to see, an overall 20% increase in brightness is achieved and finally you can make out that zombie lurking in the dark!
Micro Dimming Standard analyzes areas of the screen (280 in total) and dynamically adjusts the brightness ratio. Micro Dimming Pro adjusts brightness, color and sharpness in the 280 zones. In Micro Dimming Ultimate it does the same as Pro but instead of 280 areas it analyzes 576 zones.
From the specifications and features, the ES7100 has a lot to offer. However, how does it actually compare to the rest of the 2012 line up? The ES7100 is close to the top of the 2012 line-up but not on the podium as the flagship. The ES7100 doesn’t have a built in camera, is not infrared enabled, nor does it have Smart Interaction or a Smart Touch Remote. It doesn’t have “Ultimate” or “Pro” Micro Dimming but it has the “Standard” level which models below don’t have. The ES7100 has a higher Clear Motion Rate (CMR) that the models below it but less than the top end. It has SRS HD audio that all models below it have whereas the top end TVs have DNSe. Like all the other TVs this year, Slim LED Design, SMART Hub, Web browser, WiFi, ConnectShare are all included and come standard with every TV.
Let’s move on with the review and focus on some of the TV features and the menu system.
