Samsung UN55D7000 55 inch LED HDTV
Nov 23rd, 2011 | By SimonThe UN55D7000 is packaged in a slim but long box. On the front panel there is a large picture of the TV along with some features printed at the bottom. The box was just awkward enough that it can’t easily be handled by one person. That being said, it’s light enough if you want to stretch your arms to carry it up a flight of stairs or onto a TV stand. I certainly wouldn’t want to carry it too far on your own.

The box is comprised of two parts, the base and the top cover. The top cover can be lifted up and removed by release the four bottom clasps. Once that is done you can see the TV is well protected by Styrofoam, especially where the panel is. You can also see the TV stand off to the right side.

Also in the box is the manual, TV mount, remote control and a variety of cables.

The TV remote is the same one used with the UN55D8000. One side of the remote has your typical TV controls but on the other side we have the QWERTY keyboard. The side with your typical TV controls has a touch sensitive back lighting that can be enabled or disabled with the press of a button. The lighting is just soft enough that it doesn’t blind you when you’re using it in a pitch black room but bright enough that you’ll be able to find all the buttons.

To assemble the TV you need to gather the stand, mount, TV panel, screws and find yourself a Phillips screwdriver. The mount is secured to the stand by four screws from above.

A helping hand is beneficial with this next step but not required, the TV panel needs to be slotted into place. If you’re doing this step yourself I recommend holding the TV with the panel side facing you and then lifting and slotting the panel into the mount. Once it is in place you can let go of the TV and install the four screws on the back of the mount. The screws will safely hold the panel in place.

Ta da! The TV is now assembled. While the backside isn’t all that interesting to look at it is just as important as the front. On the back we have the power jack on the right and the input panels on the left.

As we rotate the TV around we can see two things: the first is how thin the UN55D7000 is and the second is the built-in remote for when your batteries die and you still need to turn the TV on and watch your favourite show. The built-in remote is at the very bottom right corner. It’s not exactly on the side but pretty close to it. If the TV is wall mounted then you won’t be able to see what buttons you’re pushing. If the TV is on its stand then you’ll be able to stick your head behind the TV and catch a glimpse of what the buttons are.

Finishing our rotation we get our first full look of the TV.

Before we turn the TV on let’s go over the features and specifications so we know what we’re dealing with.
