Samsung UN55D8000 55 inch LED HDTV
Sep 12th, 2011 | By SimonThe Samsung UN55C8000 is packaged in your typical Samsung TV box. It’s long and narrow making it difficult to maneuver on your own but shows off how slim this TV will be.
Once you have the box opened, there are three components to the UN55D8000: the screen, the base and all the accessories. Samsung has gone back to the X looking stand instead of the flat rectangular base we saw on the C9000. The accessories include the QWERTY remote, power cables, AV connectors and not one but two 3D glasses (only one shown)!
The two included 3D glasses are a great addition to the package; it’s frustrating to spend over two grand on a TV for 3D display only to find out that you need to buy your own glasses because they are not included in the TV or 3D Blu-ray player.
Assembling the Samsung UN55D8000 is easy; even though the screen is 55″ diagonally I was able to assembly the TV and lift it up to my bedroom without any help. The first step is attaching the back plate to the stand and then the screen to the back plate. It takes eight screws to complete and about 15 minutes.
The TV is now assembled!
Facing the TV you can see how thin the bezel is. Unlike the UN55C9000 which has a large silver bezel, the UN55D8000 has a slim black bezel blending in with the screen. This gives it a much larger look than the C9000.
Rotating the TV 90°, we can see how thin the TV is. It’s not as thin as the flagship but by all accounts thin enough to mount on a wall.
Finishing the rotating to the back we see the recessed input panel on the left, wall mounts in the middle, and a small recessed area for the power cord towards the bottom right. The two 15W speakers are down-firing and installed under the bezel making it impossible to see.
If you plug in a few sources like cable, you can start watching! Let’s move onto the features and specifications before we continue with the review.
