Samsung recommends getting some help in assembling the TV, mainly to help with moving the screen around. The screen weighs in at 54lbs but I didn’t have any trouble lifting it and maneuvering it into position. The first step is to grab the stand and install the support bracket with the five included screws. The next step is to lift the screen and position it on the support bracket. Once in place, the screen will sit and not tip over while you secure the remaining five screws.

The front of the TV isn’t very exciting when it’s powered down but the backside is a little more eventful! The power cord is integrated into the chassis and can’t be removed so be careful when moving the TV around. You don’t want to forget about the cord and either accidentally step and trip on it or crush the cord with the TV.

On the back we have the input and output panel. The area just past the connections is recessed to allow the cables to be routed without bulging out should the TV be wall mounted or pushed up against a wall. The inputs and outputs include Audio Out L-R (Mini Jack), Component In (Y/Pb/Pr), Composite In (AV), Digital Audio Out (Optical), DVI or PC Audio In (Mini Jack), Ethernet (LAN), 4 HDMI (v1.4 with 3D, Audio Return Channel), PC In (DSub), RF In, RS232C (AV Control) and 2 USB.

The two 10W speakers are both down firing. They are installed along the bottom edge of the TV. I wouldn’t pile anything on top of the stand as it could muffle the sound. The subwoofer is located on the back side, left of the power cord.

On the screen side there isn’t too much to discuss. The bezel is completely black with a clear glass trim. The screen is very glossy and I’m interested in seeing how much of a reflection or glare we’re going to see with the TV in bright daylight. It’s one thing to watch movies at night, but day time viewing performance is just as important.

On the bottom left, a few features are etched in: SRS, 1080p, Dolby Digital, and DTS. On the right side we have the power LED and ESD (electrostatic sensitive device) remote.
From a distance both features are incredibly hard to notice, with the exception of the red LED.

The PN50C7000 isn’t the thinnest TV on the market – it’s probably three times thicker than my LCD TV but even at 1.5″ thick, the PN50C7000 isn’t exactly big. The stand is less than 9″ deep making it easy enough to push up against any wall and maximize your room space. With a 50″ screen you’ll want to sit at least 7′ away from the screen; any closer and the TV seems awkward and you’ll want to turn your head when watching some of the details off to the side.

The stand is really nothing special but allows you to swivel the TV 20 degrees giving you greater flexibility in positioning the TV along any wall and still being able to see the picture.

For those who wish to mount the PN50C7000 on the wall, a 400mm VESA mount will be required.

Before we check out the TV menu, let’s have a look at the features.
