Samsung N210 Netbook
Jun 23rd, 2010 | By AnthonyNetbooks are hardy powerhouses, so we definitely aren’t looking for any ground breaking numbers here, but none the less performance must somehow be quantified. Current generation netbooks all share similar specifications and thus perform similarly so our testing here will be two parts. First, we will look at the hard numbers and then we’ll talk about how the unit runs in the real world.
For the benchmarking part of this section, we will be running two software suites: Crystalmark 2004R3 and PCMark Vantage. Both which aim to give insight into overall system performance. We’ll start off with PCMark.
PCMark Vantage is a PC benchmark suite designed for Windows Vista offering one-click simplicity for casual users and detailed, professional grade testing for industry, press and enthusiasts.
A PCMark score is a measure of your computer’s performance across a variety of common tasks such as viewing and editing photos, video, music and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security.
From desktops and laptops to workstations and gaming rigs, by comparing your PCMark Vantage score with other similar systems you can find the hardware and software bottlenecks that stop you getting more from your PC.

1104, it’s on par with other netbooks. Much like the NB30, the N210 scores no points with TV and movies.
Next up, CrystalMark 2004R3; CrystalMark does quite the same as PCMark only perhaps rather than return a score interpreted through common applications, CrystalMark is more interested with the fundamental workings: computation, memory and hard drive throughput, and rendering. The NB30 scored 28304 here.

Speaking more generally however, in day to day usage of office productivity or internet browsing the system occasionally hangs for a second or so. Again, considering how cheap RAM is, it is really a shame the N210 doesn’t ship with 2GB or more. I’m certain purchasers of this system will quickly themselves adding more RAM.
The screen, just like the NB30 is excellent. Samsung being a major producer of LCD panels, we could not possible expect less here. Samsung scores some big points here.

Finally the battery, while we couldn’t get 12 hours out of it, a solid 10 to 11 was definitely possible with the screen turned down, bluetooth off and not running anything too computing intensive – very impressive here.
