Noctua NH-L12
Jun 29th, 2012 | By JaredNow it comes time to install the NH-L12 and with Noctua’s SecuFirm2 system installation is a breeze. I will be installing the cooler into an Intel system so the first step is setting up the backplate for the appropriate socket, in this case socket 1156.

Next is to install the spacers and mounting brackets, no tools are needed here since the screws are grooved and can be easily tightened using your hands. If it is a tight area then you can use the included screwdriver if needed.

After applying the thermal paste, it’s just a matter of lining up the bolts on the heatsink with the holes in the brackets. A hole in the heatsink body allows the screwdriver to fit right down inside with the NF-B9 installed. You can even install with the NF-F12 installed but it’s a little easier to see with it removed.

The NH-L12 can be left with just the NF-B9 for PCs with low height requirements like a home theater PC. Unless you have components really close to the socket the NH-L12 should fit on most motherboards and in most cases without issue.
