Removed from the packaging, we can see that the Vortex Plus is a four heat pipe horizontally aligned fin array cooler, which are becoming increasingly rare; simply because if the wick structure inside of the heat pipe were to become damaged in a 180 degree bend, the cooling performance would be significantly hindered.

Viewing the cooler at a slight angle, the aluminum fins attached to the copper base come into view. These fins are designed to help dissipate any heat that the heat pipes cannot evacuate from the surface of the processor.

As with most heat pipe direct touch CPU coolers, there is a very slight separation between the actual heat pipes and aluminum base plate. Running your finger across the base, you cannot detect the difference in height between the heat pipes and the aluminum base. It appears that the base has been sanded smooth, but unfortunately has not been lapped to a mirror finish.

Handling the airflow is a 92 millimetre PWM fan with a maximum rpm of 2,800 and minimum of 800. Having the fan located above the heat sink and exhausting downward will aid in cooling the fin array on the base as well as the surrounding mofsets and chipset on the motherboard. Notice the vibration reducing rubber feet on the bottom of the fan.
