Finally, our absolute last two measure of performance: ATTO and Microsoft’s Robocopy. As promised it will be quick, easy and for those who have skipped to this section from the methodology page, welcome!
ATTO Disk Benchmark is more conventional benchmarking applications and does the exact same as IOZone and Iometer but in a far more simplified manner. It take only a minute or two to completed versus the several hours it takes to run a few sequences of IOZone tests.
ATTO does a lot of echoing of what we’ve already found. 75 MB/s to 80 MB/s read and just under 85 MB/s write throughout each RAID configuration.
Through our review we have done quite a bit of talk about real world and synthetic testing and have tested fairly thoroughly in both environments to best represent performance however what we haven’t done is an actual test in the real world. And it would almost seem that an actual real world test would perhaps be the Occam’s razor to our quandary.
Yes, the obvious solution would be to simply copy and paste a file and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
