Setting User PIN
Out of the box the Padlock 2 operates like any other USB flash drive on the market. To take full advantage of the Padlock 2′s security features and why you probably bought the device, you need to create a personal identification number (PIN) to secure your data. The process is quite simple and is covered in depth by the User Guide and in a YouTube video created by the folks at Corsair.

Press and hold KEY button. Both red and green LEDs will blink in unison.
Re-enter your PIN to confirm.
Press and release KEY button. Green LED will flash.

You can plug the Padlock 2 into your USB drive but if you don’t key in your PIN it will remain secure and the files will not be viewable. Read and write access is only granted after you unlock the drive.

The Padlock 2 will self-lock once removed from the USB drive.

Keeping your Padlock 2 Unlocked
It is quite possible that you will be transferring data from one machine to another; it would not make sense for you to have to enter the PIN every single time. As such, Corsair has devised a method to keep the drive unlocked.

Unlock your Flash Padlock using directions earlier in Unlock your Flash Padlock.
Press and hold the KEY button for 3 seconds. Both red and green LEDs will illuminate
Release KEY button.
Press and release KEY button. Both red and green LEDs will blink in unison.
Press and release KEY button. Green LED will blink.

I won’t cover the details on changing your user PIN, creating a master PIN that allows you to change your primary user PIN or how to wipe the drive clean and reset the Padlock 2 to the factory state. Those details can be found in the user guide.
