Unboxed, the engineering aspects of the HP-1216B come into focus. Viewing the heat sink from the front we see a five massive heat pipes connected to a base that also includes a small aluminum heat sink. This will help dissipate any heat that the massive heat pipes fail to evacuate from the base.

Take notice of the design of the fins. The dimpled texture on each fin increases surface area as well as help generate turbulence between the fins.

Turning the unit onto its side, we can see the staggered positioning of the heat pipes. This staggering should also help airflow around each pipe increasing heat transfer.

As with most heat pipe direct touch CPU coolers, there is a very slight separation between the actual heat pipes and aluminum base plate. Running your finger across the base, you cannot detect the difference in height between the heat pipes and the aluminum base. It appears that the base has been sanded smooth, but unfortunately has not been lapped to a mirror finish.

Included with the cooler is a clear fan that mounts to the unit with rubber grommets. When powered the fan glows blue with four LED’s illuminating the blades of the fan.
