Evercool HPL-815EP Low Profile Cooler

The different brackets allow for the HPL-815EP to be compatible with most of today’s processors. The first step to installation is installing the correct bracket for your socket and then attaching the four blots. Note that there are multiple mounting holes in the bracket for adjustments if needed.

Most cases today have backplate cutouts making installation a breeze by simply holding the heatsink in place and securing with four screws from the back of the motherboard.

Since the HPL-815EP is no taller than the stock heatsink the only possible clearance issues you may run into are from the four heatpipes. I wouldn’t imagine you would run into any issues especially considering that you have the additional ability for adjustment with the mounting brackets.

Installation is a simple affair so let’s get to some testing. The following system was installed and used to gather temperatures:

  • Comparison Coolers:

  • Evercool HPL-815EP
  • Stock i5 heatsink

The HPL-815EP is designed for small form factor applications and is not really intended for overclocking so I did not include any testing for this scenario. For idle temperatures, the system was allowed to stand at idle for 3 hours before temperatures were taken. To achieve load temps, four instances of Prime95 were run for three hours and the average peak temperature was recorded using CPUID HWMonitor.

At idle the HPL-815EP matches the stock cooler but shows its worth under load. Easily besting the stock cooler by 7 degrees Evercool is clearly more efficient in their design than Intel.

Sound is subjective to each individual and with that disclaimer out of the way I didn’t find the HPL-815EP to be too loud when run at full speed. The fan noise is there at full speed and if you were using it in something like a HTPC (a primary target of this cooler) than you would certainly want to take use of the PWM function of the fan.
