Samsung CLP-770ND Color Laser Printer

It’s time to start the printer and get to work. The startup sequence includes an initialization, warm up and color registration before you can actually get your first print.

The LCD display updates you with the printer’s current status and the LEDs light up depending on what data activity is going on.

When all the print jobs are done the printer will return to the main menu and eventually enter the Power Save mode. It surprises me that the LCD display doesn’t turn off during the power save mode, over the life of the printer this could save you a bit of money.

We can see that during the sleep mode the printer still draws 12W of power! In the ready mode waiting for the next job the printer consumes 32W. Warming up the printer draws a peak load of 1331W while the power draw while actually print sits in the 850W range. These values were measured using my power meter during my 20page test prints.

To test the printer I created two 20 page documents, one with black and white text and another with colored text. I recorded the time for the first page to print and the time it would take to complete pages 2 to 20. Using the time to complete pages 2 to 20 I calculated the page per minute rate. I feel as if this method is more representative of what is done in the real world. In the industry the method used it to print a document one page in length and make 20 copies of it. This reduces overhead created by sending a larger document to the print from your computer, however in the real world that is never done. The results posted below are from my 20 page document. In addition, I printed five wallpapers to judge the print speed for complete pages. If I completed the test prints per the industry standard the printer easily achieves the rated page per minute rates of 33ppm but as I alluded to, my numbers will be what you actually get in the office if you printed a single document instead of 20 pages of the same 1 page document.

The CLP-770ND is capable of printing in three different modes: draft, normal and best. In my eyes the difference is rather subtle. Here and there the shading is a little less defined but overall the colors are very good.
