Samsung 46″ Series 5 LED TV 46C5000
Aug 3rd, 2010 | By SimonThe GUI of the menu hasn’t changed in quite some time. The same features are available but depending on what input mode you are on, not everything will be available. For example, if you’re input is your PC you won’t have a “Natural” picture mode. As an overview, the main menu options are Picture, Sound, Channel, Setup, Input, Application and Support. Within each page are sub-menus where you can fine tune the TV to your liking. Out of the box, I found the TV to be very well calibrated from a picture perspective. We’ll read more of that in the next page.

I probably own somewhere in the range 500 movies and have several thousand pictures from various trips that I have been on. Putting everything on DVD so I can pop it into my DVD player and play it on my TV is becoming a task that just doesn’t seem reasonable. With the beauty of Media Play, I can pull data straight from an external USB drive or even my computer via the network connection and show it on the TV. Media Play allows you to watch movies, play songs and view pictures. There’s also a settings page to adjust your movie viewing preference.

The concept of Media Play is much like Windows Explorer. After you plug in a storage device you can select the type of media or just navigate through the folders and play whatever is available. At the top left of the screen you’ll be able to see what type of media is available in that particular folder. Using the remote you can play the selected file. It’s very simple to use.

I mentioned that you can view media files directly from your computer and this is accomplished by connecting the TV to your network. Once that is done the TV will scan for any PCs on the network with digital media. On the screen below you will see it as DLNA SIMON-PC: Simon. Once the TV is on the network then it will also show up in Media Play.

While I’ve focused primarily on Media Play, the TV still features Anynet+ which syncs compatible HDMI devices together and allows you to control them all with a single remote. Another feature included with the C5000 is AllShare. It’s just another fancy way of synchronizing multiple digital devices to the TV. This includes content from your PC, camera and mobile phone.
