QNAP TS-419P+ Turbo NAS
Feb 3rd, 2011 | By SimonNAS storage units are heavily dependent on system software, operating systems, network settings and so on. With the built in recorded trace files, NASPT can simulate specified hard drive activity down to the distribution of random and sequential reads/ writes, the spread of data over individual platters, or locality, and a number of access characteristics to ensure consistency between all tests. For our purposes, we will be looking at several tests: HD Video Playback, Content Creation, Office Productivity, Copy To NAS, Copy From NAS and Photo Album.

The difference between each configuration is not as apparent in all but two of the Intel NAS Performance Test. We see fairly large spikes with HD Video Playback and File Copy to NAS. The results of those two benchmarks are consistent with what we’ve seen in IOZone. The balance of tests show that in most cases you won’t see any performance hindrance in adding redundancy to your storage.
The benchmarks show that we’ve got a NAS that won’t stutter when it comes to HD Video Playback and when streaming media off the TS-419P+ that was exactly the case. There’s no lag whatsoever!
