The following system was installed and used to gather temperatures:

  • Control

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Q9550 @ 4.0 GHz
  • MB: Gigabyte P45-Extreme
  • RAM: OZC Platinum PC-8500 @ 1.0 GHz
  • Video: BFG 9800GTX+
  • PSU: Corsair HX620
  • HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7
  • Comparison Coolers:

  • ProlimaTech Armageddon with 140mm fans
  • Thermaltake Frio
  • XtremeGear HP1216-B

Ambient temperature was maintained at 20 degrees Celsius. For idle temperature readings the system was allowed to stand at idle for 3 hours before temperatures were taken. To achieve full load temperature, OCCT was run for three hours and the average peak temperature was recorded. This test was extended for an additional 30 minutes if the core temperature or ambient changed more than one half degree Celsius. Temperature readings were taken using OCCT.

At idle the Armageddon with both fan configurations is outpacing both competing coolers. Keep in mind that both other coolers take up significantly more room.

Under full load, the Armageddon shows it’s true brawn. When two fans are installed the cooler outpaces everything by at least three degrees Celsius. Surprisingly when only one fan is deployed the Armageddon ties with the Frio, which has two fans!
