Quote of the Day |
I think a good scene in a movie would be where one scientist tells another scientist, 'You know what will save the world? You're holding it in your hand.' And the other scientist looks, and in his hand are peanuts. Then when he looks up, the first scientist is being taken away to the insane asylum ~ Jack Handey |

GamePC also has a review of the Pentium 4 @ 1.7GHz :
"he Pentium 4, while being an amazingly designed and well executed processor, has had some major problems lately in winning over public opinion due to these facts. Simply put, the Athlon at 1.333 GHz with DDR beat the Pentium 4 1.5 GHz in nearly every benchmark, and the benchmarks the Pentium 4 did win, were only won by a hair."

Neoseeker have posted a review of the Que! Fire External CD-RW 16x10x40 :
"Of course, fast drives like the Que! Fire CD-RW 16x/10x/40x require a fast interface like firewire, which is an added expense. This can also be inconvenient in some situations where firewire (or which ever interface technology) is not available."

Rizenet have just posted their take on OCZ's MicroBGA PC150 SDRAM. This SDRAM has not yet been released, but should be available for order soon at a pretty low price. They tested it against a stick of Mushkin PC133 Rev2, and pushed both sticks over the 150MHz mark, at CAS2. Snippet :
"As you can see, the size difference is quite a bit more pronounced than standalone pictures show. The difference doesn't seem to make much of an impact on quality though - Overclockerz rates all of these sticks of memory to 150MHz, 2-2-2 (KingMax's TinyBGA is only 150MHz at 3-3-2). We made sure to back all of these claims in our upcoming tests, of course."

The peeps @ Hexus have in all of its glory a review of a AMD Thunderbird 1.33Ghz Unit (DDR of course). They did a analysis of this CPU and compared the platforms potential with others on the market, they also discuss if AMD actually need to release a Palomino based core yet ... Anyway here is a snip :
"Currently the AMD CPU range have 2 main memory buses. Firstly there is the DDR platform, which until around a week ago was not viable due to the higher prices (the performance wasn’t worth the increase in the cost dept.) The second type is the SDRam, which comes in 1 main flavour PC133. These 2 platforms are strong in there own ways."

PC Hardware posted an article describing how to modify a heatsink to achieve better cooling. Quote :
"Make sure you don't cut a bigger hole or all is lost. Be very careful that the copper plate is not thicker than the base of the heatsink, in this case you will only succeed to damage you heatsink. Again, the copper plate and therefore the hole must be one or two mm thinner than the base of the heatsink."

Mr PC PRO has just finished our review of the ECS K7VMA. Someone is always looking to build an inexpensive second system that can play games without breaking your wallet. We all know the AMD Duron packs power for a little less than a dinner date. However, can the ECS K7VMA with a built in Savage 4/2000 be the perfect match? Will it best the editor's choice, the Biostar M7VKE? You'll
have to read the review to find out.
Here is a quote:
"without tweaking the motherboard you are probably looking at a score of
24fps. No way can you play Quake III at these rates. 24 fps are Gameboy© fps
not a 700Mhz system. We set the memory to 133MHz and ran the benchmarks.
After some video card overclocking we got the ECS offering within 1.3fps of
our editor's choice. Not bad considering our Editor's Choice is using a
Athlon 800Mhz."

Extreme Overclocking has posted a review on ThermalPhobia's Copper Shims. Check it out!
"Shim quality is important if it is going to do its job effectively. A good
shim will prevent your CPU core from being chipped or cracked when mounting
a heatsink. A bad shim could easily kill your brand new $200 Athlon or
Pentium. So check out our review to learn more about shims and to see
ThermalPhobia's meets the standards. (Hint: They are great!)"

OcPrices.com have today done a review of the Asus A7M266, AMD760 based SocketA DDR motherboard. The results we got from this board was pretty impressive, managing to run a 1 GHz Tbird AXIA chip stably at 147 MHz FSB with air cooling.
"The reason for choosing the Asus board out of 'all' the AMD760 boards out there was due to the fact that it was readily available, came at a reasonable price, and that it sported almost all of the features I wanted. And on top of that I have always considered Asus products to be top notch quality products with which you basically can't go wrong. This proved to be true with this board as well..."

VIAHardware have just posted their review on a very interesting little device... the PK-OCK7/EV6. This gizmo interfaces between a Athlon/Duron and the Socket A, and allows the manipulation of the multiplier, even on a motherboard that doesn't support it. Is this cool or what?!
