Generations HD Movie - () - February 6, 2010, 9:01 am - Comments (0)

The Undiscovered Country, the baton needed to be passed from the original Star Trek crew and onto the new kids on the block. However, the trick would be to sate fans of the original series, whilst also appealing to the younger audience that had reinvigorated the aging franchise. Ultimately, despite same gaping flaws, leaps in logic and a not entirely successful melding of elements, Generations did just enough to ensure more films would come. An accident onboard the newly christened Enterprise D results in the disappearance of decorated Starfleet Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner). Decades later, the crew of the Enterprise E (the Next Generation crew) investigate an attack on a nearby observatory, revealing a much deeper plot to destroy a planet, to secure a place in the path of a mysterious travelling beam of energy called the Nexus which also may hold the key to the whereabouts of James T. Kirk.

Kingston MobileLite G2 USB Card Reader - () - February 5, 2010, 4:10 pm - Comments (0)

Quote: The Kingston MobileLite G2 card reader makes for a nice travel compa nion for those using one of the variety of cards it supports. If you are compact flash card user, you are out of luck here but thats hardly surpr ising given the reader is near the same size as a compact flash card. I d ont have any real complaints about the reader or the accompanying SDHC c ard. There was the minor issue with the amount of play with the retractab le cover on the card end of the device but this was minimal and at no poi nt was I concerned that it may break or become stuck. For reassurance, Ki ngston offers a 2-year warranty on the G2 reader and a lifetime warranty on the SDHC card...

Cooler Master ATCS 840 Case - () - February 5, 2010, 3:54 pm - Comments (0)

Many of the computer cases these days include an array of features that typically make it a bit more difficult to pick the better of the bunch from the very large choice. The choice for many comes down to the e xternal aesthetics because the bigger and better cases tend to all have s uperb cooling, removable motherboard trays and tool less designs. If you like a classic looking brushed aluminum design and three whopping 230mm f ans sounds like a good combination of the two, then you should have a loo k at Cooler Masters ATCS 840.

MSI Radeon HD 5770 HAWK 1GB Video Card - () - February 5, 2010, 1:41 pm - Comments (0)

If youre gaming at 1920 x 1200, the HD 5770 is the card I would recommend in a heartbeat, especially if you want to protect yourself a little bit for future titles. It offers us consistent performance at 1920 x 1200 with the detail level set high. As always, though, we appreciate some extra performance. Last year we saw MSI attach the GT 240 from NVIDIA with its Afterburner software. Outside of just giving us normal abilities like overclocking the core and memory, it also gave us a chance to increase the voltage on the core. What this ultimately meant was that we could achieve an ever higher core clock.

Zalman CNPS10X Extreme & CNPS10X Flex - () - February 5, 2010, 12:04 pm - Comments (0)

SNIP: Zalman. The first thing that comes to mind for most people when they hear that name is CPU heatsinks. Since 1999, Zalman has been providing great products designed to keep PC components cool, especially CPUs. The Zalman CNPS10X Extreme and CNPS10X Flex continue the Zalman tradition of providing great cooling components for CPUs. While the Flex allows you the flexibility to choose your fan setup, the Extreme provides a controllable PWM fan for immediate installation.

PowerColor Radeon HD 5750 - () - February 5, 2010, 4:40 am - Comments (0)

Quote: Performance at stock was right about where it should be, there werent any surprises. The 1GB of memory helped out in some games at 2560x1600 while others the card was just too weak. Once the big overclock set in though, this card was a performer! It wasnt ground shattering, but it did help the 5750 catch up to the other cards and made it feel less like a low-midrange GPU.

RAID 0 Just How We Like It - () - February 5, 2010, 4:27 am - Comments (0)

When we tested the ASUS P55 and GIGABYTE P55 boards with USB 3.0 and SATA 6G, we found some interesting numbers when using the GIGABYTE P55A-UD4P in RAID 0. For the most part we didnt see much of an improvement when going from a single to a dual drive configuration with RAID 0. GIGABYTE also noticed the same issue and quickly went to work with Marvell to find a solution. When enthusiasts choose to pair a set of drives in RAID 0, they are looking to nearly double their performance. RAID 0 offers many a quick and inexpensive way to get solid performance gains out of the slowest component or subsystem in their computer. Simply put, when your hard storage system is running faster, your entire machine feels more responsive and appears to be faster.

A visit to SilverStones website reveals they currently offer four different series of HTPC cases and a whopping thirty-two models! The GD05 we have for review today is part of SilverStones Grandia series of mainstream HTPC enclosures. These are designed for the multimedia PC builder on a budget, that still accommodate a standard micro-ATX board, full-size power supply and video card. The last case of this type we reviewed here at OCIA.net was the GD02 almost two years ago. While there have been two revisions between that one and the GD05, they all share a similar chassis and seem to differ mainly in style. Join me as I take a closer look at the SilverStone Grandia GD05.
