SilverStone PS05B Mid Tower Black Chassis
Aug 25th, 2010 | By JaredInstalling the hard drive and DVD burner are simple tasks thanks to the tool free features, meaning that swapping out hard drives is a quick and easy process.

One snag I did run into was with the heatsink. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus proved to be too tall to fit. To compound this issue the backside cutout was not large enough to accommodate a socket placement located towards the top of edge of the motherboard. With this snag I had to turn to a stock cooler since all of the larger heatsinks I had would not fit.

Besides that one snag installation went smoothly though things did seem somewhat cramped.

Enough talking let’s get to some testing. The following system was installed and used to gather temperatures:
Control:
CPU: Intel E8400 w/ stock Intel cooler
MB: Biostar TPower I45
RAM: G.Skill PI Black PC6400
Video: HIS HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo 1GB
PSU: Ultra X3 1000W
HD: WD 250GB SATA
DVD-Rom: Lite-On 18x DVD Burner – SATA
OS: Microsoft Windows 7
Ambient Temperature: 25-26C
Comparison Cases:
Silverstone PS05
Cooler Master HAF932
First up we’ll do some testing to see how well the PS05 keeps things cool at idle.
To get idle temperatures I started the PC up and allowed it to sit at idle for 3 hours with no processes running and recorded temperatures using Everest Ultimate.

At idle you can definitely see the difference in the areas that do not benefit from more active airflow, mainly the GPU and chipset.
Next was to load the PC and get some temperatures with a little more heat involved. To get load temps, I ran Orthos blend along with 3DMark06 in a continuous loop for 3 hours, again recording temps using Everest Ultimate.

Once the PC is loaded up there is a greater disparity between the temperatures of the PS05 and the Cooler Master HAF932. This is due in large part to the greater number of fans in the larger case, however with room for 3 additional fans the PS05 could surely improve in its cooling capabilities.
On the front of sound, the PS05 is pretty quiet and with the option of adding up to 3 additional fans you can choose just how loud you want the case to be.
