Typically, with modern day software, a record size of 64kb is used with larger files. With the sheer amount of data conveyed throughout the last few tests, it was hard to accurately gauge the QNAP TS-559 Pro, and even harder to do so across different RAID configurations. In the next section, we will be comparing the data compiled through the tests we ran earlier to gauge performance over the various RAID configurations.

Given a Gigabit ethernet connection’s maximum throughput being 125 MB/s, our averages obviously do not take in account the corresponding throughput rates measured representing the system’s cache effect. Beyond file sizes measuring 512MB, we can see the system’s caching abilities expended and performances differences between each RAID configuration is minimal.

Perhaps it’s thanks to the dual-core Intel Atom, or the 1GB of system memory inside the TS-559 Pro, but whatever it is, QNAP knows very well how to put together a serious NAS, as we’ve seen before in the past, and especially from what we’ve seen here today.

Our last sets of graphs for IOzone are of the Reader and Re- Writer reports. We’ve seen how consistent the unit performed, but all on the same axis, the three configurations could very well be the same line. Users can definitely expect to see read throughput rates of around 80 MB/s.

Just to finish up our look at IOZone, we are going to have a look at average values of each test with a record size of 64kb further digesting our data for a definitive indicator of what one can expect out of the unit.
