QNAP TS-559 Pro Turbo NAS
Jul 22nd, 2010 | By AnthonySetting up a NAS can be a bit daunting with the sheer amount of settings and features to sift through. Thankfully, QNAP has long since been regarded as a company who makes the whole setup process just a bit easier with excellently designed user interfaces. On top of that, if you’ve used a QNAP product before, chances are quite a bit will be familiar with the TS-559 Pro.
Before we get started with the software, let’s get the drives up and running.

Pulling the lever of each drive cage releases it from the body. Mounting each drive is very simple – if you choose to use 3.5″ hard drives you will need four screws per drive but if you use a 2.5″ hard drive you will need to use the three smaller screws per drive.

With the drives in place simply plug in the power and connect the NAS to a network.
QNAP offers a few routes to configure the NAS. For those in a hurry, the built in display module allows basic settings like configuring RAID and basic network settings. Otherwise, the bulk of the sttings of course are accessible through a web browser. At this point, one could simply direct a computer to the NAS’ address at port 8080 or pop in the installation CD for QNAP Finder.

Once installed QNAP finder will search your network for the TS-559 Pro and allow one to configure settings like administration settings and network settings.

Once that is all setup, you can now head over to the web interface.

The main page provides some quick links; the one we are interested in is of course: administration.

QNAP has definitely done an excellent job with the interface as always. It is well designed, easy on the eyes and fast. QNAP’s also adds a few new useful features like a more comprehensive resource monitor, mobile viewing support, new multimedia features and so on.
