Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W and Toughpower 1200W
Dec 31st, 2010 | By AnthonyFirst we’ll start with a few group pictures!
As the nomenclature suggests, there’s some likeliness between the two power supplies. That however, is mostly superficial beyond appearances.
Starting with the Toughpower XT 875W, we’ve got a bag of wires, a box of goodies, and the power supply.
The same applies with the Toughpower 1200W. For the record, the box of goodies includes a power cord, cable ties, screws, and in for the Toughpower 1200W, a rubber mounting grommet as well.
The units are finished in a sharp looking metallic grey, black sleeving and color coded molex connectors in red, black or blue. The whole- piece fan grill is also a nice touch.
One nifty feature the Toughpower XT series has though is an LED indicator off towards the side of the unit. How useful it might be however, that’s another question.
Both units are single- fan type power supplies where a single large fan pushes air into the unit and out through the perforated back plate.
Opening up these two power supplies is a bit tricky. The screws are tucked away behind the metal label towards the side. While that really shouldn’t be too much of a problem, the metal label is glued to the body of the unit and flexible. In most cases there should be no reason for you to open up the power supplies like we do!
Inside the Toughpower XT 875W it is a fairly typical CWT built power supply. On the main side we have Nippon Chemicon and on the secondary side Teapo capacitors.
Inside the Toughpower 1200W, things are a bit more interesting. With the obvious difference in overall length of the unit, inside, it is obvious just why.
We actually have two power supplies sitting beside one another! The reason for the odd rail groupings earlier, well, that’s why.
Over on the main side we have Hitachi capacitors and on the secondary side, Nippon Chemicon capacitors. Always a pleasing sight!
