Here at Overclockers Online, we have just had a look at the ATP ToughDrive mini, and the results were superb. As a company that specializes in compact flash and secure digital memory, it was just a matter of time until they started manufacturing USB drives.

Today we will take a look at ATP's Pink Petito. The Petito comes in a variety of colors, but the special edition Pink version is to raise breast cancer awareness. Being a proud sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a percentage of sales will be donated to benefit the foundation.
USB drives have been around for a long time now, and they are the definition of
very
portable storage. A USB drive should read and write quickly as well as take a daily beating when implemented into the user's life. The ToughDrive mini has already set the bar, let's see if the Petito can live up to it!
Page 2 : Package
The Petito arrived in a rather nicely styled clamshell package.

The packaging details all of the specifications as well as the features the little drive packs.

Now before we pry the Petito out, let's take a look at the specifications.
Page 3 : Specifications
As on the ATP website, these are the specifications:

The features listed are:

A quick glance at the specifications shows that on top of being able to transfer files at 30MB/s, the Petito can withstand shock, water, and extreme temperatures. This would be useful, especially for people who often forget their drives in their jeans and give them a wash.
Now that we have covered specifications, let's move on to the Petito.
Page 4 : Contents
Opening the package reveals the only contents being the drive and a rather short lanyard.

Other than being very small, cute, and stylish, the drive's exterior is made of a matte finished aluminum. The shell is strong and feels like it can withstand quite the weight before failing.

The cap fits very snugly, and there is no "click" when you close the cap.

Now that the drive has gotten some fresh air, let's take it for a spin.
Page 5 : Installation
Right when plugging in the Petito, there is no problems with Plug and Play.

There are two programs included with the Petito, we will first take a look at CarryItEasy.

This program synchronizes your files, favourites, email, etc. between your computer and the USB drive.

The other program is USB Disk Utility. This program manages your login, password, as well as partitioning of the Petito. The USB Drive can be partitioned into a free space area, as well as a secured area, and you set a password in order to access this secured space. Having this added security is useful for handling delicate documents which you would not want anyone else to open.
Now that the Petito is fully functional, let's test it against several other drives.
Page 6 : Testing
We used HD Tach to test various performance specs of the Petito against various drives from other companies as well as their ToughDrive mini which was recently reviewed.

ATP advertised the Petito to have a transfer speed of 30MB/sec, and according to HD Tach, the average read exceeds that specification which is great. The burst speed falls short however, which is rather odd as burst speeds tend to be faster than sustained reading speeds. The Petito is beat by it's bigger brother, the ToughDrive, but the comprise is size.

Testing with FileSystem, we see that the Petito exceeds the posted read speed of 30MB/sec, but the ToughDrive mini beats the Petito in all read speeds. In write speeds however, we see that the Petito is faster than the ToughDrive mini.
For a rather small drive, the Petito packs a fair bit of performance to back up the company's reputation.
Page 7 : Conclusion
The ATP Petito is small, light, and fast, making the Petito one of the best in the market. It surprised me that ATP produced a drive that is able to deliver faster speeds than the competition as well as keep size down to a minimum. This certainly shoots down the phrase "size matters" because the Petito really sets another standard for the performance versus size ratio.

The pricing on the Petito however is a little steep, but for every penny does get it's worth considering the speed/size ratio. Without a doubt, ATP is one of the top companies in the industry. With the Petito exceeding our expectations, it would not be a surprise if we see more outstanding products from them in the future.
