Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive

Apr 15th, 2010 | By news

Weve seen some very fast SSDs over the last while, but they remain very expensive, generally too expensive for most users. High prices are always a stumbling block to new tech adoption, and SSDs are no different. However, there may be relief on the horizon, as Kingston has released a $90 SSD that looks to be fast, in the hopes that it will finally bring solid state drives into the mainstream.

Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive @

Quote: Today for review Ive got that new version but its only a 30gb drive as opposed to the original 40gb capacity. So weve gained TRIM support but l ost 10gb in the process?! Ive decided to compare it to that original 40gb dr ive and even a couple others Ive got on hand. From my testing it is faster than the original that came out last year, which is a good thing, but it still lacks fast write speeds. The write speeds though are not supposed to be off the charts fast, its meant to be a boot drive which means you boo t your OS from it and use it for reading from mainly, its meant to be pair ed with a standard mechanical hard drive where you would keep your programs an d use that for writing to. For the price its well worth it for those that want the speed of an SSD but dont really want to or have the cash to pay for a =91regular SSD drive. So read on=85
